Today was the first day on the 3D pathway. I was slightly nervous about this week as I new it was going to be a new start doing a topic I hadn't done before and also meeting a whole new group of people.
Anyway to start off the week we were given the task of writing a list of 50 types of architectural spaces which actually turned out to be a harder task that I originally thought, however I believe that this list will help me throughout the 3D pathway when I am trying to create something unusual and unique.
For the next part of the day we had to create a series of sculptures using a wide range of materials from cable ties to polypropylene. This happened to also be a fairly difficult task as I really had to use my imagination to come up with different designs but once I had relaxed into it I managed to come up with some good designs. We did this task on both Monday and Tuesday and after took pictures of our models.
In between making the models, we were given the opportunity to use illustrator in order to make a laser files which we then used the laser cutter to cut out. Using the illustrator software was very hard and complicated but I soon got the hang of it and was able to make various shapes. unfortunately were we not shown how to actually use the laser cutter but it was great to see my designs all cut out perfectly. I then put all my pieces together to create more sculptures which looks really good.
On the last day of the week we had to sit and draw our sculptures using a wide range of media whilst also drawing them from different perspectives and different sizes. After some guidance I was able to also produce some more technical drawings as well. The final task was to use tracing paper to create objects or spaces out of the sculptures we had made. This was my favourite task of the week as this type of design is what I love to do. I think that these drawing went really well and I feel that this method of creating sculptures to inspire designs is very useful and I think that I will use it in the future.
Overall, this week has been a great start to the 3D pathway and I hope that it continues to inspire me to be imaginative and as free thinking as I possible can be as this is one of the things I find the hardest. I also hope that the rest of the pathway is as enjoyable.
