Maze

Week three

Over the weekend I decided that I wanted to produce a maze that would be able to accommodate people of all ages to have a fun free day out but where they would be able to pay to go into the main maze and experience something they had never experienced before.

I also wanted to have a building at the centre of the area that would accommodate the main challenge mazes which would bring something a little bit more special. I really liked the idea of having a rotating building so that when people are on the inside the maze will be rotating the whole time to make the experience even more confusing and exciting. This would also provided quite a special from the outside for people to look at.

On the surrounding ground I wanted to make sure there was something for everyone so I decided there should be a more traditional maze that people of all ages could go in for free and also provide a place for people to buy food and have a picnic to make the whole day a good experience.

I then went of to use Google Sketch up to show what the layout of the area will look like.

I decided that the maze would be made from green perspex so that parents sitting in the picnic area can still see there children in the maze.

After this I started to design the exterior of the building that will hold the two main, pain mazes for people to experience. With my mind being so cluttered with ideas I was finding it really hard to put pen to paper so I decided to just start making a model and see where I ended up. This is what I came up with:

The building will have three levels with the main reception at the bottom and the two different level mazes on top which will rotate. I called the whole thing the Minotaur after the greek mythology and also the concept for the second maze.

Here are the two concepts:

Confusion

People will go into the maze and start their jouney. Every two minutes the whole room will rotate.
As this happenes, all the players are required to stand still as the walls turn from opaque to transparent. This then gives them the opportunity to find out which of the six exits is now avaliable to them. Once the room has stopped moving the walls will return to their original state for the players to continue their journey.
All players will be required to wear an electronic wrist band so that staff on the outside can keep track of everyone.
It will also provide the player with the time it took them to complete the challenge.

The Minotaur

Teams will go in to the maze in order to collect the objectives and find the minotaur.
The aim of the maze is for each team to collect a series of four rings placed around the maze and attach them to the minotaur horns.
The minotaur will be moving at a steady pace around the maze at all times meaning that once a player has collected a ring they have got to try and refind the minotaurs.
Once all four rings have been placed, the team will have to gather at a point all together in order to be shown which one of the six exits they can escape from.
Room will be continuously rotating.

Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to produce any models for the inside of the maze but it is something I could possible go back and do in the future.

Over all this three week project was a lot harder than I initially thought it was going to be due to the pure extent of where it could have taken me. I found the feedback from both staff and students quite overwhelming as there were just so many ideas that I could have taking into consideration.
However, during my crit, everyone liked the idea that would could enjoy a nice family free day out whilst having the option to experience something new and thrilling.
